In this spiral-bound book, old-time banjo teacher Matt Brown shares forty six arrangements in the thumb lead, two-finger banjo style. Seven of the tunes are presented at two difficulty levels. Ranging in difficulty from beginner to advanced, the repertoire ranges from jam favorites to rare showpieces. This collection is an excellent resource for learning the two-finger style at home, whether studying with a teacher like Matt or figuring it out yourself. Chord suggestions are included where appropriate. This book highlights Matt’s transcriptions of Kentucky banjoists Roscoe Holcomb, Granville Bowlin, Lee Sexton, and Morgan Sexton. He also shares his tablature for Benton Flippens June Apple and Paul Browns Cacklin Hen. Audio recordings of each tune are available for free on twofingerbanjo.com.

“Matts approach to teaching thumb lead two-finger banjo is beautifully straightforward, and his arrangements perfectly combine accessibility and musicality. I highly recommend this manual to any banjo player looking for a structured way to make compelling old-time music without getting boxed in by clawhammer-centric guidance.”
